The Old Line State offers plenty of opportunities if you are interested in driving school buses. You must pass the Maryland CDL School Bus “S” Endorsement Knowledge Test as well as the Passenger “P” Knowledge Test and a full skills exam in a Maryland-approved school bus. All applicants must maintain a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate. You may also have district-level requirements to meet before transporting students. There’s no question: a lot is expected of you before you’ll be allowed to transport Maryland’s children to and from school. Our Maryland CDL School Bus “S” Endorsement Knowledge Practice Tests are designed to guide you through most of the major steps of the process and are the perfect tool to ensure you pass your official knowledge exam on the first attempt.
The knowledge test focuses on the procedures that matter most for school bus safety, particularly the loading and unloading of students. The “danger zones” around the bus (the front zone extending as far as thirty feet from the front bumper) are the areas where, statistically, most accidents involving students occur. Drivers must demonstrate mastery of continual mirror checks, blind-spot awareness, hazard scanning, and student movement as students approach, board, ride, and exit the bus. The official exam also covers controlled stops, securing the bus, and preventing passengers from being caught on handrails or door equipment. Drivers with a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) cannot carry any passengers (except qualified instructors or examiners) even if they have the “P” and “S” endorsements. All driving practice must take place in an empty bus until full licensure and all necessary endorsements are obtained.
Our Maryland CDL School Bus Knowledge Practice Tests mirror the structure and wording (which can be tricky) of the official exam. Our practice tests omit extraneous material, allowing you to concentrate on what really matters. A Challenge Bank™ repeats missed questions until you fully master them, and a results page highlights areas that may need more review. Once you’ve aced this practice test, check out another one here: https://driving-tests.org/maryland/md-cdl-school-bus-practice-test/.
You should also consider taking our Air Brakes Knowledge Test, because most full-size school buses are equipped with air-brake systems. Additionally, before you can transport school kids, you’ll need the Passenger “P” Endorsement, so check out our practice tests for that, too: https://driving-tests.org/maryland/md-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/.
