According to the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), roughly 1 in 5 commercial vehicles inspected during unannounced roadside checks are pulled off the road due to out-of-service violations. Most of these safety issues could have been caught and fixed if the drivers had performed a thorough pre-trip inspection.
Taking an extra 30 minutes to inspect your vehicle can prevent accidents and save lives. All aspiring commercial drivers must fully master the pre-trip inspection during their learning phase and perform it correctly throughout their careers. This procedure is discussed in Section 11 (Vehicle Inspection) of the official Commercial Driver’s License Manual (Maryland CDL Handbook 2026).
The official General Knowledge Exam includes 50 multiple-choice questions that will evaluate your understanding of general commercial driving theory. A few of these questions are about the pre-trip inspection. To help you answer those correctly, we provide you with access to our Maryland CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Tests. They are designed to boost your learning potential and make this important procedure easier to understand. The practice test that you’re about to take is the second in this series. It works best when paired with the official Commercial Driver’s License Manual, which you can open in another window while you work through the questions.
