- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 MA commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for August 2025
Massachusetts was one of the first states to introduce eco-friendly incentives for commercial fleets, encouraging companies to adopt cleaner technologies and reduce emissions. As a result, commercial drivers in the state get to operate modern, low-emission trucks equipped with advanced safety features and better fuel efficiency. If you are considering a career in this field, there’s a good chance you’ll be part of a greener future. However, this job involves great responsibility, and only the most determined aspiring commercial drivers succeed in this field.
To get a Class A CDL, you must meet several requirements and pass two knowledge tests. The official general knowledge written exam has 50 multiple-choice questions based on the official Massachusetts Commercial Driver License Manual (Massachusetts CDL Handbook 2025). To pass, you must score 80% or higher and answer all questions before the timer runs out. One key requirement for a Class A CDL is being able to safely operate combination vehicles. You must also pass the official combination vehicles knowledge test if you are interested in this license class. Air brakes are standard on most heavy trucks. To operate commercial vehicles equipped with air brakes, you must pass the official air brakes knowledge exam.
Our Massachusetts CDL Class A Practice Test makes studying commercial driving theory easier. This practice test consists of 93 multiple-choice questions on pre-trip inspections, proper cargo handling, and safety regulations. It is up to date as of August 2025 to reflect the latest updates brought by RMV rules or state law. Practice with this tool daily to gradually improve your knowledge and build the confidence to pass the official written knowledge test on your first attempt.
Every expert driver started as a beginner, but their skill comes from years of practice. While you will gain a lot of experience behind the wheel of a semi-truck, it is crucial to master commercial driving theory before venturing onto the Bay State’s roads and making your first delivery.
