Finding the perfect resource to prepare for the Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test can be a daunting task. You have come to the right place for a scientifically proven, expert-driven series of practice tests perfect for the task! To legally operate combination vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, in Massachusetts, you must earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
The steps include completing the Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-approved provider, passing the General Knowledge Exam, obtaining a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), holding it for at least 14 days, and then passing both the Massachusetts CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test and the behind-the-wheel road skills test. The three-part Skills Test includes pre-trip inspection, off-street skills (performing controlled maneuvers like alley dock and parallel parking), and on-road driving.
The official Massachusetts Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must score 80% (16 correct answers) or higher to pass. The test covers safe driving practices for combination vehicles, coupling and uncoupling procedures, preventing trailer skids and jackknives, air-brake systems and trailer service brake checks, and inspection and maintenance procedures. If you fail, you must wait at least one business day before retesting, and a retest fee may apply. Our practice tests help to ensure you pass on your first attempt; thus, avoiding any delays and added fees.
Our Free Massachusetts CDL Combination Practice Tests replicate the format of the RMV exam, helping you master the material faster through instant feedback and detailed answer explanations. Major industries employing Class A drivers in Massachusetts include logistics, manufacturing, construction, and port freight transport. Roadways like I-90 (Mass Pike), I-95, and I-495 (connecting Boston, Worcester, Springfield, and distribution hubs) provide ample opportunities to Class A drivers.
Passing the Combination Vehicles Test opens doors to higher-paying driving opportunities and more job options. Adding endorsements like N (Tanker), H (Hazardous Materials), and T (Doubles and Triples) can further expand your career potential. Check out one of our endorsement exams here: https://driving-tests.org/massachusetts/ma-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/.
