- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 MA commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for September 2025
If you want to transport hazardous materials in Massachusetts, you must have a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement on your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This credential cannot be issued until you are at least 21 years of age, have completed all Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements, and have fulfilled two additional milestones. The first is the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) processing of your background check and fingerprint submission. Quite some time can pass as you wait for these results, so submit the paperwork early. Once submitted, you should turn your attention to the third and final requirement: passing the Massachusetts RMV HazMat Knowledge Exam.
This official exam has 30 questions and requires at least 24 correct answers (80%) to pass. It covers a wide swath of material, including federal regulations, material handling, packaging, quantity limits, and transport configurations. That’s where our series of scientifically engineered practice tests and study materials comes into play. Experts have designed our practice tests to mirror the official Massachusetts RMV exam and have eliminated the unneeded fluff you’ll find in other online study guides. We give you just the material you need to pass the exam on your first attempt.
Without the HazMat endorsement, you are prohibited from transporting materials that the federal government has deemed hazardous. You cannot transport cargo such as gasoline, propane, pesticides, explosives, industrial chemicals, radioactive substances, and infectious materials. With the endorsement, you open the door for jobs in industries ranging from manufacturing and construction to healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Massachusetts companies like Boston Scientific, General Electric, and Thermo Fisher Scientific regularly hire (and require) drivers with the HazMat endorsement. With all of these job opportunities, you really should obtain this and other available endorsements to add versatility and potentially higher pay to your driving career.
The HazMat endorsement may feel intimidating, but we provide all the tools you need to get the job done with amazing results. And why stop there? Our Massachusetts-specific series of practice tests caters to each endorsement offered, and each test is specially designed to shorten the learning process and increase retention. Tackle the Air Brakes test with our materials to help you get any air brake restrictions removed from your CDL. We also have general CDL practice tests and combination vehicle practice tests.
Be sure to check out our Massachusetts-specific page for everything that we offer. Race ahead of the pack and obtain as versatile a CDL as possible so any job that comes along has your name on it!
