The transportation of students in the North Star State is carefully safeguarded by both federal regulations and Minnesota law. Any driver seeking to transport students must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with both the Passenger “P” and School Bus “S” endorsements and must pass the Minnesota DVS CDL School Bus “S” Endorsement Knowledge Test. You must also pass a road/skills test (in a school bus with a passenger capacity of more than 15) and meet other requirements described in more detail below. To pass the School Bus “S” Endorsement Knowledge Test, you’ll need a minimum score of 80%, and the test covers a lot of material. Our Minnesota CDL School Bus “S” Endorsement Knowledge Practice Tests are exactly what you need to prepare for and pass your official exam on the first attempt.
Before taking any skills test, you must first obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). In addition to passing all required knowledge tests and endorsements, you must submit the required self-certification form and maintain a valid medical examiner’s certificate. (However, effective June 23, 2025, submission of the driver’s medical information to the government is now the responsibility of the medical examiner, not the driver.) Minnesota requires that the CLP be held for at least 14 calendar days before the CDL road test may be taken. CLP holders are prohibited from transporting passengers other than the supervising licensed driver or test examiner.
The official school bus endorsement test evaluates your understanding of loading and unloading procedures, student supervision, mirror usage, emergency management, and railroad grade crossing requirements. This list is just the tip of the iceberg of the material covered. Our interactive, AI-powered practice tests eliminate the fluff and deliver the material needed to pass the exam. Our trademarked Challenge Bank remembers any questions missed and provides opportunities to face those questions again until mastered, ensuring you are prepared for the official exam. We also provide a review at the end of each practice session that highlights topics needing extra study. These features go far beyond the static pdfs and outdated study guides you’ll find elsewhere. Our experts designed these practice tests to speed your learning process and increase overall retention. As we mentioned before, you’ll also need to pass the Minnesota CDL Passenger “P” Endorsement Exam. We have dedicated practice tests for that, too: https://driving-tests.org/minnesota/mn-cdl-passenger-vehicles-practice-test/. Since most full-size school buses have air brakes, you may need to pass the official air brakes test to remove any restrictions from your CDL.
