The pre-trip inspection usually involves checking headlights, brakes, wheels, wipers, and emergency equipment, among other things. You should perform this inspection the same way each time to make it easier to remember. Your knowledge of this procedure will be evaluated on the official General Knowledge Exam, which you must take at a DMV office. Scoring 80% or higher will grant you a CLP (Commercial Learner’s Permit), which authorizes you to practice driving commercial vehicles under the supervision of a full CDL holder. Additionally, you must perform a thorough pre-trip inspection during your CDL skills tests.
