To earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Missouri and drive combination vehicles, you must pass the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test in addition to other prerequisites. This test is necessary for operating combination vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) over 26,001 pounds, provided the towed unit has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 10,000 pounds (Missouri CDL Manual).
On the official exam, you’ll face 20 multiple-choice questions and must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. Our Free Missouri CDL Combination Practice Test is based on the official 2025Missouri CDL Manual and closely mirrors the actual exam. The practice test includes instant feedback and hints that speed learning and improve retention. Topics include combination vehicle safety practices, skids and jackknife prevention, coupling and uncoupling procedures, air brake systems in combination vehicles, and inspection procedures specific to combination vehicles.
In addition to passing the knowledge test, you must pass a CDL skills test in a representative combination vehicle. Before taking this skills test, Missouri requires that you hold a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days and complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR).
Original questions by our teamBased on 2025 MO CDL Handbook
Questions are created and maintained by the Driving-Tests.org content team following our multi-layer editorial process and updated whenever the MissouriDOR changes its handbook or website information. Official sources we check:
Because most combination vehicles are equipped with air brakes, we also offer Air Brakes practice tests to help you remove license restriction “L” (no air brakes) or “Z” (no full air brake system) from your CDL. You must pass the Air Brakes Knowledge Test and a skills test in a vehicle with air brakes to legally drive vehicles equipped with air brakes.
To further enhance your job opportunities, you may also want to pursue endorsements such as T (Doubles/Triples), N (Tank Vehicles), H (Hazardous Materials), and X (Combination of Tank + Hazardous Materials). Again, our suite of practice tests is just the tool for achieving these goals.
Holding a Class A CDL opens the door to jobs throughout Missouri’s leading industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and logistics. Major corridors like Interstates 70, 44, 55, and 35 connect cities such as St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia, necessitating skilled combination vehicle drivers.

How we make exam‑like questions

What we don’t do
We don’t collect or publish actual test items and we’re not affiliated with DOR.
