- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for October 2025
The Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement is essential for drivers who want to transport federally classified hazardous materials. Without it, you’ll be excluded from a large number of higher-paying transport jobs. Adding the endorsement to your CDL in Nebraska is a top-notch way to increase your job opportunities and earning potential. The process for obtaining this endorsement can be arduous; however, our experts have created a series of practice tests that help to ensure you meet all requirements and pass the final exam with flying colors.
In the Cornhusker State, drivers face terrain ranging from the Great Plains to the Sandhills region (with dunes, loose soil, and limited infrastructure) to the often-flooded and narrow passes along the Missouri River Valley. Harsh winters create additional challenges that are only compounded by the dangers involved in transporting hazardous materials. That’s part of the reason this endorsement opens doors to job opportunities and pay. Hazardous cargo in Nebraska includes anhydrous ammonia (a common agricultural fertilizer), pesticides and herbicides, petroleum products, and industrial chemicals like chlorine and ethanol. Employers such as CF Industries (fertilizer and pesticide distribution), Sapp Bros. Petroleum, Inc. in Omaha, and Novozymes in Blair (industrial enzymes and chemicals) depend on Hazmat drivers and often offer premium pay for the expertise required.
The endorsement process includes three major steps. First, you’ll need to make sure all Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements are complete. Then, you’ll need to begin the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprinting and background check. This step can take weeks, so start it as soon as possible. You can then strategically use the wait time to prepare for the third major step: the DMV HazMat Knowledge Test. This test covers federal regulations, safe handling, packaging, quantity limits, and transport configurations. To pass, you’ll need a minimum score of 80% on Nebraska’s 30-question exam (Nebraska CDL Handbook 2025).
To make studying easier, our practice tests provide real-time feedback and mimic the official test format. Also, this practice test is just one of several Nebraska-specific HazMat study aids. Check out another one here: https://driving-tests.org/nebraska/ne-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/. Once you’ve completed all ELDT requirements and cleared your TSA background check, and feel prepared from studying our practice tests, you’ll visit the DMV, bring the required documents, pay the fees, and pass the test.
