- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 NJ commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for August 2025
With a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you can haul refrigerated goods like pharmaceuticals or fresh produce between Newark and distribution hubs across the East Coast. These loads often require long-haul trips and involve great responsibility. There’s no room for error when you drive a combination vehicle, and that’s why the MVC is strict about the licensing process.
All aspiring commercial drivers must pass two knowledge exams and meet several other requirements to get a Class A CDL. The official general knowledge written test has 50 multiple-choice questions on the various aspects of commercial driving theory. You can find more information on this subject in the official New Jersey Commercial Driver License Manual (New Jersey CDL Handbook 2025). The official combination vehicles knowledge test focuses on the safe operation of combination vehicles. It evaluates your understanding of proper braking techniques, coupling and uncoupling procedures, and pre-trip inspections. A minimum score of 80% or higher is required to pass each test.
Initially, your CDL will have an L restriction. This restriction forbids you from operating vehicles equipped with air brakes. Since most semi-trucks in New Jersey are equipped with air brakes, it is also highly recommended to take and pass the official air brakes knowledge test and a skills test in a vehicle with air brakes. Our New Jersey CDL Class A Practice Test is an intuitive tool designed to boost your learning potential. It includes several features you can use to customize your testing experience, including a voice-over function. Once activated, an artificial voice will read the questions and answer choices aloud, making it easier for you to focus when studying in a crowded environment where distractions are common.
Commercial driving is a skill that cannot be learned overnight. It takes time and effort to improve your knowledge, but our New Jersey CDL Class A Practice Test can make studying more efficient and less stressful. Use it regularly and stay consistent in your practice. With unlimited attempts and nonstop browser-based access, there’s no limit to how often you can train with our practice tests.
