Are you planning a career as a truck driver? In North Carolina, there’s a constant demand for Class A CDL holders. This license allows you to operate a variety of commercial vehicles, including combination vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, whose trailer exceeds 10,000 pounds. The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) oversees the licensing process and requires all applicants to pass several theory and skills tests.
Your knowledge of general commercial driving theory will be evaluated through 50 multiple-choice questions when you take the official general knowledge exam. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass, which we’ll help you achieve by providing you with access to our Free North Carolina CDL Permit Practice Test. This intuitive tool includes several questions based on the official Commercial Driver License Manual (North Carolina CDL Handbook 2025). Please read its contents multiple times during your learning phase to familiarize yourself with this subject.
Based on the official NC CDL HandbookHandbook‑based (2025) + exam‑taker feedback
The official combination vehicles knowledge test is the second exam in the Class A CDL licensing process. Your knowledge of pre-trip inspections, commercial driving regulations, and combination vehicle safety practices will be evaluated through 20 questions based on Section 6 (Combination Vehicles) of the official commercial driver license manual. To help you ace this exam on your first attempt, we have created a series of five North Carolina CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Tests.
The practice test that you’re about to take is the fourth in this series. You can access it on any compatible device, no matter where you are in the world. However, you’ll need a stable internet connection at all times. Customize your testing experience with the test settings menu, which can be accessed by clicking the three dots in the top-right corner of the page. Activate the voice-over function to boost your focus and eliminate distractions. An artificial voice will read the questions and answer choices aloud, which is especially beneficial for students with auditory memory.
Becoming a safe and responsible commercial driver takes time and effort. Dedicate the following weeks to studying the commercial driver license manual and use it alongside our practice tests to build a strong foundation for your driving skills.

How we make exam‑like questions
We mirror recurring themes (e.g., right‑of‑way traps, sign look‑alikes) and use similar distractors and wording styles.
What we don’t do
We don’t collect or publish actual test items and we’re not affiliated with DMV.
