ND CDL General Knowledge Exam Simulator 2025
The Bakken oil fields in western North Dakota constantly demand specialized CDL drivers. Many companies run 24/7 operations and provide the highest-paying commercial driving jobs in the state. Drivers transport crude oil, drilling equipment, and water to and from well sites. If you are considering a career in this industry, you’ll need a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). You will also need the Tanker (N) and HazMat (H) endorsements to transport hazardous materials and drive tankers.
As an aspiring commercial driver, your first step is to pass the official North Dakota CDL General Knowledge (permit) test. This exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions based on the official North Dakota commercial driver license manual (North Dakota CDL Handbook 2025). In North Dakota’s western regions, oilfield routes and rural highways often have varying terrain. Drivers who don’t manage speed correctly on hills put themselves and other road users at risk. Controlling speed on downgrades and other aspects of commercial driving theory are explained in the official handbook. Please read its contents at least once to understand the basics.
