All aspiring commercial drivers must pass several exams, with the first one being the official general knowledge test. Consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions, this exam will evaluate your understanding of pre-trip inspections, safe driving practices, and emergency procedures. To increase your chances of achieving a passing score on your first attempt, you should incorporate it into your study routine.
Once you pass this exam, you will be issued a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). You must hold your CLP for at least 14 days before you can schedule and take your CDL skills tests. During this time, you must also complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT). This requirement is mandatory for all 50 U.S. states, including Oklahoma.
If you want to drive combination vehicles, you must take your skills tests in a combination vehicle (such as a semi-truck or tractor-trailer). To do that, you must first take and pass the official combination vehicles knowledge exam.
