The Volunteer State is a great place to change young lives by adding the School Bus and Passenger Endorsements to your CDL and becoming a school bus driver. Before transporting students anywhere in the state, however, you must pass both the Tennessee DMV CDL School Bus "S" Endorsement Knowledge Test and the Passenger "P" Endorsement Test. There are additional federal, state, and local requirements, and quite a list of topics to learn. That’s OK! Our team of content experts has made the process easy for you, starting with our Tennessee CDL School Bus "S" Endorsement Knowledge Practice Tests. Our practice tests take the guesswork out of what to study and feature interactive, AI-powered responses and a Challenge Bank™ of questions designed to ensure you have every topic mastered. Our goal is to help you pass your official knowledge tests on the first attempt!
The official exam puts safety first. Even with the necessary endorsements, if you’re still holding a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), you are prohibited from carrying passengers in a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) until all licensing is complete. This means all training must take place in an empty bus (with the exception of instructors or Skills Test officials). Tennessee also requires a valid DOT medical certification for school bus and passenger endorsement holders, ensuring you are physically ready to fill this role.
Test topics include student safety during loading and unloading, maintaining constant awareness of the danger zones surrounding the bus, using mirrors effectively, and positioning the vehicle in a way that minimizes risk. You must understand how to perform controlled stops, secure the bus, and observe students as they approach and leave the vehicle. This includes monitoring students to make sure loose clothing or backpacks don’t get caught on handrails! You’ll also be evaluated on railroad crossing protocols, emergency response, evacuation decisions, and post-trip inspections. Our practice tests cover all of this! Once you’ve aced this one, try another: https://driving-tests.org/tennessee/tn-cdl-school-bus-practice-test/.
Our practice tests reflect the structure and tricky wording of the official exam and feature photorealistic questions that test much more than your ability to memorize a few facts. They far exceed what you’ll find with outdated study guides and static pdfs. Once you have a handle on the school bus "S" endorsement material, continue preparing with the Passenger "P" Endorsement and Air Brakes practice tests:
