The licensing process for a Class A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) begins with submitting an application at a DMV location. Here you will also pay licensing fees, present identification documents, take your theory exams, and undergo a vision test. If you plan to engage in non-excepted commerce, you must also pass a medical examination performed by an FMCSA-certified medical examiner.
Your knowledge of general commercial driving theory will be evaluated through 50 questions based on the official Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook (Texas CDL Handbook 2025). Each question has multiple answer choices, but only one is correct. To prepare for this exam, you should check out our Free Texas CDL Permit Practice Test.
Incorporating practice tests into your study routine can make the difference between passing and failing your theory exams. These tools add flexibility to your learning process, making it easier for you to train during the day. All of our practice tests are available online, 24/7. You can access them on any compatible device that is connected to the internet.
