To operate tankers in the Lone Star State, you’ll need a Tanker (N) endorsement on your Class A or Class B CDL (Commercial Driver’s License). If you plan on transporting hazardous liquids or gases (such as gasoline, propane, or liquid oxygen), you will also need a HazMat (H) endorsement. The licensing process includes several theory and skills tests, beginning with the official general knowledge exam. Your understanding of commercial driving regulations, emergency procedures, and safe driving practices will be evaluated through 50 multiple-choice questions. You must score 80% or higher to pass, leaving little room for error.
The official tanker vehicles knowledge test includes 20 questions based on Section 8 (Tank Vehicles) of the official Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook (Texas CDL Handbook 2026). Our Texas CDL Tanker Vehicles Practice Tests can help you prepare for this exam so that you can ace it on your first attempt. Each practice test is available online. You can access them on any compatible device that supports a browser.
You’re about to take the second practice test in this series. It includes several features that can enhance your testing experience. The voice-over function, once activated, will use an artificial voice to read the questions and answer choices aloud. Use it to eliminate distractions and increase your focus when studying in busy environments. After each question, immediate feedback is provided, allowing you to identify your mistakes before the test ends. We recommend noting this feedback in a notebook or notebook app for future reference.
You can also incorporate our Free Texas CDL Permit Practice Test and our Free Texas HazMat (H) Endorsement Practice Test into your study routine. They will help you master general commercial driving theory and gain the specialized knowledge required to transport hazardous materials with tanker vehicles, opening the door to more employment opportunities.
Our practice tests can make the difference between failing and passing your theory exams. However, becoming a responsible commercial driver in Texas takes more than a passing score. Please ensure you fully understand the material before you take the next step in the licensing process.
