- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 VA commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for August 2025
To operate combination vehicles legally in Virginia, you must pass the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test and fulfill other requirements to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Additionally, before you can schedule your hands-on CDL Skills Test, you must complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through a FMCSA-approved provider.
The Virginia Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test contains 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. A minimum one-business-day waiting period and an additional fee for each subsequent testing attempt will be required if you do not pass on your first attempt.
Delays and retest fees can all be avoided by using our Virginia CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Tests, which are designed to go beyond basic study guides. They help you learn faster and retain more information by employing science-backed methods: 1) closely mirroring the official Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) exam, 2) providing immediate feedback and built-in hints for each response, and 3) providing AI tools to assist in learning. These practice tests are based directly on the most recent Virginia CDL Manual. Rest assured, this painstaking attention to detail is purposeful in providing the perfect tool for passing the official exam on the first attempt.
Topics you will need to know prior to testing include safe driving techniques for combination vehicles, prevention of trailer skids and jackknifing, coupling and uncoupling procedures, air brake systems (specific to combination vehicles), and inspection requirements. This is no small list, but don’t fret. We have you covered every step of the way.
Why get the combination vehicles certification? Earning your Class A CDL in Virginia opens the door to employment in high-demand industries such as logistics, agriculture, food distribution, and manufacturing. The state’s strategic location near major hubs and the capital and its major interstates like I-81, I-95, I-64, and I-66 make Virginia a major transportation hub across the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic.
Nearly all combination vehicles in Virginia use air brakes. We have exactly what you need in our suite of Virginia-specific practice materials: air brakes practice tests to help you pass that knowledge test as well (on your first attempt!).
You should also consider endorsements such as (T) Doubles/Triples, (N) Tank Vehicles, (H) Hazardous Materials, and (P/S) Passenger and School Bus. We provide practice tests for all these endorsements, making us your one-stop shop for Virginia CDL knowledge test preparation.
