To pull doubles in Wisconsin, you must hold a Class A CDL and obtain a Double/Triple (T) endorsement on your CDL. (The state does not allow triple trailers.) Many carriers in the United States employ doubles (where legal and practical) for their increased efficiency (more freight per trip). The limited number of drivers with this endorsement and their specialized training place them in high demand.

About the Wisconsin CDL

In much of the country, the logistics and retail sectors use multiple trailers for efficient transport, and Wisconsin is no exception. The state is a major hub for LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight transportation. Companies like FedEx Freight, TForce Freight, and XPO Logistics employ doubles for this purpose. Walmart uses double trailers to supply stores from its distribution centers. Amazon Fulfillment Centers use double trailers for package distribution. Festival Foods and Roundy’s (Kroger) use double trailers to supply their supermarkets. In the all-important dairy sector, Schreiber Foods and Land O’Lakes use refrigerated double trailers (double reefers) to transport dairy products.

To obtain the Double/Triple Endorsement on your CDL, you must pass the official Double/Triple knowledge test. This test covers such topics as safe handling, air brakes on doubles and triples, coupling and uncoupling, emergency situations, pre-trip inspections, rollovers, and trailer sway. (No special skills test is required for this endorsement.)

This knowledge test is based on the official Wisconsin CDL manual (Wisconsin CDL Handbook 2025), especially Chapter 7: Doubles and Triples. Please don’t assume you’ll pass the knowledge test just by reading this manual. We can help ensure you pass the Double/Triple knowledge test on your first try.

This is the first of our five Wisconsin Doubles and Triples Endorsement Practice Tests. It’s based on Chapter 7 of the official CDL manual, just like the Double/Triple knowledge test. It’s up to date as of December 2025. The 20 multiple-choice questions and answers on this practice test deal with air lines, converter dollies, coupling, emergency situations, following distance, and rearward amplification.

Our AI Assistant can help you figure out the answer to any practice question. You can ask it to rephrase the question or give you a hint. You can also ask your own questions about commercial driving. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will immediately give you the correct answer and an explanation. This practice test isn’t timed; take all the time you need to learn and master the material covered by this practice test.
