In Person

You may renew in person at the nearest licensing center or designated satellite city hall.

Plan of Action

1. Provide the following:

   • Your driver’s license

   • Proof of your identity

   • Proof of legal presence in the U.S.

   • Social Security Number

   Names must be the same on all documents. If you have a name change and the names on your documents are not the same, you must also submit the original document that verifies your name change (Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, Court Documents).

2. Pay the required fee: License Fees:

   • One-Year License: $5 (Hawaii), N/A (Honolulu, Kauai, Maui)

   • Two-Year License (Ages 72 and Older): 10 dollars (Hawaii, Honolulu, Maui), $8 (Kauai)

   • Four-Year License (Ages 24 and Younger): 20 dollars (Hawaii, Honolulu, Maui), $16 (Kauai)

   • Eight-Year License (Ages 25–71): 40 dollars (Hawaii, Honolulu, Maui), $32 (Kauai)

Note that you may renew 6 months before the license expiration date and have a grace period of 90 days after the license expiration date without penalty. A reactivation fee of $5 per 30 days or fraction thereof will be assessed after the 90 days.

By Mail

You may renew a regular Class 3 license (not a Limited Purpose license) by mail if it is currently not expired. You can renew by mail up to two times in a row. The next time, you must renew in person. (Also, before you try to renew by mail in Kauai, contact the Kauai Driver’s License Division at (808) 241-4256 to make sure that you are eligible to renew by mail in Kauai.)

3. Receive your renewal packet by mail.

4. Fill out and submit the renewal packet. Follow the instructions and complete all the forms in the packet.

5. Pay the fee by check or money order. License Fees:
