This picture represents the most effective position (10 o'clock and 2 o'clock) of the hands on the steering wheel of a vehicle without airbags. On a vehicle with airbags, however, it can be dangerous to place your hands that high on the steering wheel. The driver's airbag deploys out of the steering wheel at very high speed and might drive your hands into your face or even injure your hands. If you're driving a vehicle with airbags, keep your hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions.
