To be legally allowed to pull double or triple trailers in the United States, you must meet a set of requirements, including passing several knowledge tests. You must obtain a Class A CDL. To do this, you must pass the General Knowledge test, which all CDL applicants must pass. You must also pass the Combination knowledge test, which is required to obtain a Class A CDL to drive combination vehicles, such as semi-trucks and tractor-trailers. (You must also pass a skills test in such a vehicle.)
To drive combination vehicles with two or even three trailers or semi-trailers, you must also obtain a Double/Triple (T) endorsement on your Class A CDL. (However, triple trailers are prohibited in Connecticut.) To obtain this endorsement, you must pass the Double/Triple knowledge test. This test covers such topics as safe handling, air brakes on doubles and triples, coupling and uncoupling, rollovers, and trailer sway. (However, no special skills test is required for this endorsement.)
Based on the official CT CDL HandbookHandbook‑based (2025) + exam‑taker feedback
All these knowledge tests are based on the official Connecticut CDL manual (Connecticut CDL Handbook 2025). You likely studied parts of this manual to get your CDL. We offer a set of tools to complement the official manual with intensive training. This is one of our tools: the first of five Connecticut Doubles and Triples Endorsement Practice Tests. This practice test is based on the official CDL manual, just like the official Double/Triple knowledge test. It’s up to date as of December 2025. The 20 multiple-choice practice questions and answers on this practice test address such topics as air lines, converter dollies, coupling, following distance, rearward amplification, and rollovers.
Our AI Assistant can give you a hint if you get stuck on a question or an immediate explanation of the correct answer if you still miss the question. There’s no time limit; take all the time you need to learn and master the material covered by this practice test. Not satisfied with your final score? You can retake this practice test as often as you wish. Each time, the order of the questions will be randomized.
Once you obtain your Double/Triple endorsement, you’ll be pleased to see how high the demand is for drivers with this qualification. Here are just two of the economic sectors using double trailers. In Connecticut as elsewhere, the logistics sector makes great use of double-trailer vehicles. LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) carriers and parcel delivery services use double trailers to transport goods efficiently between hubs. The retail sector also uses double trailers to transport products from distribution centers to stores and supermarkets.
