- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 HI commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for August 2025
Looking to boost your career and earning potential in the Aloha State? Adding the Doubles/Triples (T) Endorsement to your Hawaii Class A CDL is a great way to do it! With this endorsement, you’re qualified to operate double and triple trailer combinations. More importantly, you open up a whole new level of job opportunities and potentially higher income with carriers that operate across the islands and beyond.
To get started, you must hold either a valid Hawaii Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) or a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). With that, you’re eligible to take the Hawaii Doubles and Triples Knowledge Test. The test is based on Section 7 of the official Hawaii Commercial Driver License Manual and includes 20 multiple-choice questions. You must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass, and if you fail, the Hawaii DMV requires a one-business-day waiting period before retesting and additional fees after multiple failed attempts. For that reason, and because we need more T-endorsed drivers on the road, our experts have put together the perfect tool to help you pass your exam on the first attempt!
Our free Hawaii CDL Doubles and Triples Knowledge Practice Tests are designed to mirror the official exam. With real-time feedback, hints to guide you through the learning process, and AI-powered learning tools to speed learning and increase retention, our tests dwarf the effectiveness of your usual study guide. Our tests cover coupling and uncoupling procedures, managing the “crack-the-whip” effect, preventing rollovers and jackknifing, adjusting following distance, and conducting proper inspections – every topic you’ll need to master the exam.
Once you pass and get the T endorsement, you’ll be ready to drive doubles or triples (where allowed) with carriers like FedEx Freight and Old Dominion. Most doubles/triples use air brakes, so you’ll also need to pass the Hawaii Air Brakes Knowledge Test and complete your CDL skills exam in a vehicle with full air brakes. Doing so removes the “L” or “Z” restriction from your CDL. Use our Air Brakes Practice Tests to ensure you’re ready!
Hawaii CDL holders can also pursue endorsements for N (Tank Vehicles), H (Hazardous Materials), X (Tank + Hazmat Combo), P (Passenger Vehicles), and S (School Bus Drivers). The Tank/Hazmat endorsement alone authorizes you to drive gasoline trucks and hazardous chemical trucks, significantly increasing your earning potential. We provide Hawaii-specific practice tests for each.
