CDL applicants in Illinois must certify to the Illinois Secretary of State (SoS) the type of commerce (excepted or non-excepted, interstate or intrastate) they plan to engage in. Those in non-excepted commerce must undergo a medical examination. The medical examiner will submit the results electronically to the FMCSA, which will forward them electronically to the SoS for inclusion in the applicant’s driving record.
