In Kentucky, earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) requires a few major steps, including passing the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test. Additionally, you’ll need to complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR). You must then take the CDL General Knowledge Test to obtain your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). You’ll need to hold that permit for at least 14 days before you are eligible to take the behind-the-wheel Skills Test in a representative combination vehicle. A lot of steps, to be sure. However, the Class A license is worth the effort, and our experts have created practice tests to help you along the way.
The official Kentucky Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test has 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must answer at least 16 correctly (80%) to pass. If you don’t, you’ll have to wait at least one business day and pay a retest fee before trying again. Our Free Kentucky CDL Combination Practice Tests replicate the format and topics of the real exam, complete with real-time feedback and hints so you can learn as you go. You’ll cover essential subjects like safe-driving practices for combination vehicles, combination vehicle air-brake systems, coupling and uncoupling techniques, inspection procedures, and preventing trailer skids and jackknives. What we use
Driver handbook • Knowledge‑test/permit overview • Fees & ID requirements • Office/appointment info
How we make exam‑like questions
We mirror recurring themes (e.g., right‑of‑way traps, sign look‑alikes) and use similar distractors and wording styles.
What we don’t do
We don’t collect or publish actual test items and we’re not affiliated with KSP.
