- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 LA commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for September 2025
To become a commercial driver in Louisiana, you must complete the licensing process and get a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The OMV oversees the licensing process. It requires all applicants to follow a structured system that ensures they are fully prepared for the responsibilities of commercial driving. The first step requires you to submit identification documents, pass a vision screening, and complete a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam by an FMCSA-approved medical examiner.
To receive a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), you must pass the official general knowledge exam at your local OMV office. This test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions on the various aspects of commercial driving theory. To pass, you must score 80% or higher. Applicants are required to hold their CLP for a minimum period of 14 days. During this time, they must complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT). This is a federal requirement mandated by FMCSA in all US states and the District of Columbia.
The CDL skills test has three parts: a pre-trip inspection, a basic vehicle control test, and an on-road driving exam. If you are interested in a Class B CDL, you must take this test in a Class B commercial vehicle. Upon passing, you will be issued your Commercial Driver’s License.
Our Louisiana CDL Class B Practice Test can help you master commercial driving theory. This intuitive tool has 50 questions based on the official Louisiana Commercial Driver’s Manual (Louisiana CDL Handbook 2025). It is available online, 24/7, so you can practice whenever you wish. You can learn the basics of commercial driving in a few days, but it takes weeks of consistent practice to fully master this subject. By using our Louisiana CDL Class B Practice Test throughout your learning phase, you can strengthen your knowledge and build the confidence to succeed on exam day.
