In New York, to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement, all drivers must pass both knowledge and skills exams focused on passenger transportation. All drivers are responsible for the safety of their passengers, and that responsibility increases with the number of occupants in their vehicle. Learning is the first stage of obtaining your NY Passenger (“P”) endorsement.
You cannot skip it since it is legally required and sets the foundation for your newly acquired skill. Even if you obey the same road rules, there are several differences between commuting to work in your personal vehicle and transporting up to 80 passengers in a large bus.
Luckily, there are plenty of online resources to aid you on this journey. This Passenger Endorsement practice test has 20 questions based on the official 2025 CDL manual. It closely reflects the format and content of the actual written knowledge test, featuring multiple-choice questions. Pay attention to and read every question twice since some of them have more than one plausible answer, and you must choose the best answer.
