Getting your Commercial Driver’s License in Vermont is simple, if you can navigate all of the required documentation and get around a pretty tricky general knowledge exam. All that is to say — it’s really not that simple at all. First you’ll want to make sure you’ve taken care of the paperwork part. The DMV in Vermont requires you show a Medical Examiner’s Certificate which proves that you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle. This can be obtained only from a licensed medical examiner as listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. Certification lasts two years, unless you have a condition, like high blood pressure, which the examiner feels needs to be monitored. The other documentation you will need is a valid current driver’s license and proof of US citizenship or permanent legal residency. This last piece can be fulfilled with a green card, driver’s license, or social security card. Then there’s the 50 question exam that you have to finish in one hour. Get more than 10 questions incorrect and that’s a failing grade. That means you’ll have to return on another day (as you can’t take the test more than once a day). To avoid that fate, pick up the official Vermont Commercial Driver’s license Manual and study using our CDL General Knowledge practice exams. The practice tests have a hint function and tracking capability that allows you to focus on exactly what concepts you need to study. Our questions are even phrased similarly (sometimes identically) to how you will find them on the real test. With your paperwork in order and the confidence you get from acing a few practice exams, you’ll be ready for success at the Vermont DMV. Start your CDL journey today with our Exam Simulator!
