In Connecticut, regardless of age, you must obtain a learner’s permit to practice supervised driving before taking the road test. To get a permit, you must be at least 16 years old, meet documentation requirements, pass a vision test, and pass the official written knowledge test.

The Connecticut DMV written test has 25 multiple-choice questions based on the official Connecticut driver’s manual (Connecticut DMV Handbook (CT Driver’s Manual) 2026). The test is offered in 11 languages, with hard copies available in 24 more by special request. The passing score is 80%.

You can take the vision and written tests only by appointment at certain DMV offices (not online). You must make the appointment online. If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must come with you to the test or fill out a consent form. If you fail the knowledge test, you must wait seven days and pay another exam fee before retaking it.

This is the second of our five Connecticut Permit Practice Tests, current for May 2026 and based on the official Connecticut driver’s manual. Our AI Assistant can give hints, explanations, or answer your own driving questions. We also offer a Connecticut Permit Test Study Guide with document checklists, fees, and frequently missed questions.

As of January 1, 2026, all new permit applicants must complete a free online work zone safety course before receiving a learner's permit. This requirement is specific to Connecticut and was added to address driver behavior in construction zones.

How to use Connecticut Test 2

Treat this as a second read, not a repeat of the first practice test.

1

Start with Emergency Situations

This is one of the main areas in this test pool, so review the rule before another scored attempt.

2

Use fresh wording for CT rules

Test 2 changes the question mix so you can separate understanding from memorized answers.

3

Move to Test 3 after repeat misses drop

Use Test 3 to confirm that emergency situations plus lane changes and passing no longer pull your score down.
