Perfect for:
Learner’s permit applicants
First‑time adult applicants
In Rhode Island, all drivers must obtain an instructional permit before applying for a driver’s license. Requirements include being at least 16 years old and passing a vision test plus the computerized DMV written knowledge test.
If you’re under 18, you must complete a 33-hour classroom driver’s education course (no driving yet) starting at age 15 years and 10 months or older. You must finish the course before applying for the instructional permit. Your parent, guardian, or adult spouse must also accompany you to the DMV to co-sign the application.
This is our second Rhode Island DMV Permit Practice Test, current for May 2026 and based on the official Rhode Island driver’s manual. Choose the best or most complete answer for each question.
If you’re unsure of an answer, our AI Assistant can give a hint or clarify the question. We also offer a Rhode Island Permit Test Study Guide with document checklists, fees, and last-minute tips.
Questions are created and maintained by the Driving-Tests.org content team following our multi-layer editorial process and updated whenever the Rhode IslandDMV changes its handbook or website information. Official sources we check:

What we use
Driver handbook • Knowledge‑test/permit overview • Fees & ID requirements • Office/appointment info
How we make exam‑like questions
We mirror recurring themes (e.g., right‑of‑way traps, sign look‑alikes) and use similar distractors and wording styles.
What we don’t do
We don’t collect or publish actual test items and we’re not affiliated with DMV.
