Commercial driving theory is a complex subject that takes several weeks to master. It covers a wide range of essential topics, including pre-trip inspections, rules of the road, special driving conditions, and emergency situations. Before you can get a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you must pass several exams. The official general knowledge test has 50 multiple-choice questions based on the official Vermont Commercial Driver’s Manual (Vermont CDL Handbook 2025), a comprehensive resource published by the DMV. You must score 80% or higher to pass, leaving little room for error.
By default, your CDL will include an L restriction, which prohibits you from operating commercial vehicles equipped with air brakes. To remove this restriction, you must pass the official air brakes knowledge exam. Taking this step is highly recommended, as the majority of commercial vehicles in Vermont are equipped with air brakes.
To help you pass your theory exams on your first attempt, we give you access to an intuitive tool designed for aspiring commercial drivers. Our Vermont CDL Class B Practice Test, when used regularly, can significantly boost your learning potential.
