In Arizona, you must be at least 16 to obtain a motorcycle endorsement. However, you can apply for a motorcycle permit as soon as you turn 15½ years old. Applicants under 18 must hold a motorcycle permit for at least 6 months and complete a motorcycle safety course. You can also have a parent or guardian certify in writing that you’ve completed at least 30 hours of supervised riding practice.

There are two paths to get the endorsement, and the easier one involves the completion of a motorcycle safety course. These courses provide training, a written test, and a skills exam. Upon completion, you will receive an MSF card, which you can take to the MVD to waive the written and riding tests. If you choose not to enroll in a safety course, you must get licensed through the MVD.

Getting a motorcycle instruction permit requires passing the official Motorcycle Knowledge Exam, which is based on the latest version of the official Motorcycle Operator Manual (Arizona Motorcycle Manual). You must also pass a vision screening, provide identification documents, and pay the licensing fees.
