Ready to explore the charming coastal towns of Delaware on two wheels? Nothing compares to feeling the refreshing ocean breeze as you ride along the coast, experiencing a sense of freedom sought by riders worldwide. Becoming a licensed motorcycle rider in Delaware starts with the learning phase, where you’ll study the various aspects of riding theory. The Delaware Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) publishes the official DMV motorcycle operator manual (Delaware Motorcycle Manual). This valuable resource contains information on such topics as hand signals, crash avoidance, mechanical problems, alcohol and the law, and safely carrying passengers and cargo.
We offer an intuitive tool you can use alongside the official motorcycle manual. Our DMV motorcycle permit practice tests are designed to closely reflect the content and format of the official written knowledge exam. Each practice test has 20 multiple-choice questions. Avoid rushing and only select an answer when you are confident in your choice. We understand that a series of mistakes can discourage even the most prepared students. At any point during a training session, you can use the “Restart” button at the top-left corner of the page to wipe your current progress and begin a new session with a randomized order of questions.
Pay attention to the detailed explanation provided for every question. This feedback can help you learn from your mistakes. Our practice tests will not punish you for your mistakes. Instead, you get the opportunity to learn from them without facing the consequences of the official exam. On this note, we recommend training with our practice tests for several weeks before going to the DMV location on exam day. Through repetition, you’ll be able to memorize the correct answer to every question. Passing the official knowledge exam, although a temporary priority, should not be your main goal. The purpose of our motorcycle permit practice tests is to make you a responsible rider, one that puts safety above all else.

Delaware motorcycle rules to know
Rules that are specific to Delaware or often differ from other states
Helmet rule
Under Delaware law, a passenger who rides a motorcycle must have his or her own footrests, seat, and helmet. Riders and passengers under 20 years of age must wear their helmets.
Eye protection rule
Under Delaware law, all motorcyclists and their passengers must wear eye protection at all times, even if their motorcycle has a windshield. In Delaware, goggles and glasses with protective lenses and face shields all qualify as eye protection.
Permit or endorsement rule
While a motorcyclist at least 18 years of age holds a temporary motorcycle learner's permit, he or she must wear a helmet and eye protection at all times while riding. The motorcyclist may take the on-cycle skill test for a motorcycle endorsement after holding the permit for at least 10 days, bearing in mind that the permit expires in six months.
Lane splitting or filtering
A motorcycle needs a full lane width to maneuver safely. Under Delaware law, every vehicle must be driven entirely within a single lane to the greatest extent practicable.
