To legally operate a motorcycle in Connecticut, you must have an "M "endorsement on your driver’s license. The state (DMV) oversees the licensing process. It requires completion of a safety course, passing the official Motorcycle Knowledge Exam, and passing a vision screening. While it is optional, many aspiring riders obtain a Motorcycle Learner’s Permit to practice before taking the safety course.
So what should you expect during the Connecticut Rider Education Program (CONREP) course? You will attend an online course followed by 16–20 hours of classroom and on-cycle training. After completing this course, you will receive a completion card. You must present the completion certificate to the DMV within two years of completing the course. Keep in mind that riders under 18 may not carry any passengers for the first 6 months, while those aged 18 and older must wait 90 days before they can carry a passenger.
