Illinois offers two motorcycle classifications: Class L (under 150cc) and Class M (150cc and above). You must pass a vision screening and a 15-question knowledge exam to obtain an instruction permit. This permit allows you to practice during daylight hours under the supervision of a rider who has been licensed for at least a year. The next step is to schedule and take the skills test at a DMV location. If you pass, you will receive a Class L or Class M classification on your driver’s license.
Applicants under 18 must complete driver education and an IDOT-approved motorcycle safety course. This course is also available for those 18 and older. If they complete it, both the skills and written tests are waived. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass the official Motorcycle Knowledge Exam. We’ll help you ace it on your first attempt by providing you with access to our Illinois DMV Motorcycle Practice Tests.
You’re about to take the second practice test in this series, which includes questions similar to those you will encounter at the DMV office. It is based on the official Motorcycle Operator Manual (Illinois Motorcycle Manual), which you should read at least once during your learning phase.
If the default text size feels too small on your screen, you can quickly adjust it from the test settings menu. This menu is located in the top-right corner of the page and gives you access to various features. You can also toggle the voice-over function, which uses an artificial voice to read the questions and answer choices aloud. Listening to the questions rather than reading them can help you process the material in a different way. Studying a new subject can be confusing, and that’s why repetition is key.
