A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required to operate large, heavy, or hazardous materials vehicles for commercial purposes. To obtain one in Nevada, you must meet several requirements. The minimum age to apply is 18, allowing you to drive intrastate until you turn 21, when you are allowed to drive across state lines or transport hazardous materials and passengers. After providing the necessary documents and paying the license fees, you must complete several examinations. Start with the DOT medical exam, covering various aspects of your health. Then, you must pass a 50 multiple-choice CDL General Knowledge (permit) test, additional knowledge tests, and at least one skills test for your CDL and endorsements. After holding a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days and completing Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a registered training provider, you can take the CDL skills test, which is the last step in the licensing process.
