Adding M endorsement to existing license
Moped/scooter permit (varies by state)
In South Carolina, the process for obtaining a motorcycle endorsement is managed by the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If you don’t have a valid driver’s license, you must obtain a Class M license. The first step to becoming a licensed rider is to pass the official Motorcycle Knowledge Exam and a vision screening, which will grant you a learner’s permit. By law, you must hold this permit for at least 180 days. Take this time to improve your riding skills before applying for a full license. You will not need a learner’s permit if you already hold a valid driver’s license, but many students still choose to obtain one to practice riding.
While holding a learner’s permit, you will be allowed to ride alone during daylight hours. At all other times, you must be accompanied by a licensed rider who is at least 21 years old and has at least one year of riding experience. You must pass an on-cycle skills test using your own street-legal motorcycle and safety gear. Most applicants take an approved safety course to skip both the written knowledge test and the skills test.
As you begin your learning phase, it is crucial to build a strong foundation of knowledge. We’ll help you master riding theory by providing you with access to our South Carolina DMV Motorcycle Practice Tests. Out of the five we offer, you’re about to take the second practice test in this series. Its content and format are similar to those of the official Motorcycle Knowledge Exam. All questions are based on the official Motorcycle & Moped Operator’s Manual (South Carolina Motorcycle Manual), which you should read at least once.
We also offer a Free South Carolina DMV Motorcycle Practice Test to aspiring riders who seek an efficient alternative to traditional study methods. Incorporate this tool into your study routine and train with it as often as your schedule allows. Within a few weeks, you’ll be ready to ace the official Motorcycle Knowledge Exam and progress in the licensing process.
Questions are created and maintained by the Driving-Tests.org content team following our multi-layer editorial process and updated whenever the South CarolinaDMV changes its handbook or website information. Official sources we check:

How we make exam‑like questions

What we don’t do
We don’t collect or publish actual test items and we’re not affiliated with DMV.
