Georgia. If that old sweet song has Georgia on your mind, you are likely aware of the state’s beautiful landscape, including the Blue Ridge Mountains, the coastal plain, and the Appalachian Plateau. You must be interested in the sweet opportunities available once you’ve added the Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement to your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). You’ll need to be a minimum of 21 years of age per federal law to transport hazardous materials. (If you’re younger and looking for additional opportunities, check out our Double/Triple Trailers endorsement practice tests for intrastate driving.) For the 21 and older crowd, the Hazmat endorsement broadens their marketability and can result in higher pay and recruitment potential!

The U.S. government has deemed cargo like explosives, certain types of fuel, industrial chemicals, radioactive materials, and infectious substances as hazardous. The Hazmat endorsement permits drivers to transport these materials. You might be asking yourself, “Do I really want to transport radioactive materials?” Rest assured, the most important objective of this endorsement process is to ensure safety.

About the Georgia CDL

You’ll need to pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprinting and background check. We say “first,” because the results from TSA can take weeks, so you’ll want to use the waiting period to practice for the second major hurdle: the DDS knowledge test. The knowledge test is made up of 30 questions (24 out of 30 answers must be correct) and addresses topics like federal regulations, substance handling, material packaging, quantity limits, and transport configurations for hazardous materials (Georgia CDL Handbook 2026).

In the Peach State, there are multiple industries that require a Hazmat endorsement, including chemical manufacturing (Delta Airlines headquartered in Atlanta and, believe it or not, Coca-Cola headquartered in Atlanta require the endorsement on some of their chemical hauls), petroleum and energy (Colonial Pipeline and RaceTrac Petroleum are headquartered in Georgia), waste management and environmental sciences, and industrial gas. This sounds amazing, right? Let’s simplify this process!

Our online Georgia CDL HazMat Endorsement practice tests are strategically designed to focus on the necessary information. We get straight to what’s relevant and our practice tests mimic what you will face on the official DDS test. Once you have your TSA results in hand and feel prepared, you’ll visit the DDS with the necessary documents, pay the fees, and confidently take the test.
