MD CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Test 2 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements

There are several required steps to earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and legally drive combination vehicles in Maryland. After passing the general knowledge exam, obtaining a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), and holding it for at least 14 days, you must pass the Maryland CDL Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test to gain the combination vehicles certification. Other requirements include passing a skills test in a combination vehicle and completing Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through an FMCSA-approved provider, as mandated by federal regulations. We have created a suite of practice tests for the general knowledge exam and the knowledge exams for various additional certifications (as well as our Air Brakes Practice Test for restriction removal). Check out all of our state-specific practice tests.

The official Maryland Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions and requires a score of at least 80% to pass. If you fail the exam, you must wait at least one business day before retaking it, and a retest fee may apply. Our Free Maryland CDL Combination Practice Test is designed to help you avoid that situation by simulating the actual exam and providing immediate feedback and hints for each response.

Based on the most recent Maryland CDL Manual, our practice tests cover topics like safe driving practices specific to combination vehicles, air brake systems, proper procedures for coupling and uncoupling, detailed inspection protocols, and identification and function of the major parts of combination vehicles.

Earning your Class A CDL (including its combination vehicle qualification) will increase your marketability in Maryland’s transportation sector. Major trucking highways include I-95 (running northeast-southwest through Baltimore to cities like Washington, DC and Philadelphia), I-70 (from Baltimore westward), I-68 (connecting to the Appalachian region), I-83 (connecting Baltimore to Pennsylvania), I-495 (the Capital Beltway circling DC), and US Routes 40 and 50 (supporting regional transport).

Primary Maryland industries that require Class A drivers include logistics, agriculture (particularly poultry and dairy), biotechnology, and federal contracting. The major US Port of Baltimore demands certified drivers, as do companies like Amazon and other distribution centers.

Additional CDL endorsements to consider include N (Tanker), H (Hazardous Materials), and T (Doubles and Triples). Each of these endorsements strengthens your qualifications and opens more specialized driving opportunities. You should also prepare for and take the Air Brakes Test, as most combination vehicles use air brake systems. Our complete suite of Maryland CDL Practice Tests prepares you for most optional endorsements.
