Driving in Maryland involves navigating through the daily commuter traffic. Since this state is also part of the Washington, DC metro area, long delays on major routes are often common. Although the road system is in good condition, the Capital Beltway and Baltimore Beltway are often crowded. Rural areas have less traffic but may have winding roads that can be difficult to navigate during inclement weather. The average commute time is around 32 minutes, with over 68% of commuters driving alone. So why does this traffic cause inconvenience?
Some reports indicate that traffic congestion around schools, such as Parkdale High School, causes regular delays for both students and staff. A practical solution comes in the form of school buses, which are the safest mode of transportation for children traveling to and from school. Most of Maryland’s school buses are designed to transport up to 72 students, but they require regular maintenance and adequate driver training.
Based on the official MD CDL HandbookHandbook‑based (2025) + exam‑taker feedback
If you want to become a school bus driver, you’ll need to obtain a School Bus endorsement on your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). In Maryland, you can obtain this endorsement after passing the CDL School Bus written knowledge test. Since most school buses are Type C, you will also need to add a Passenger Vehicles (P) endorsement to your CDL.
Certainly, there are many requirements for a job with such a significant responsibility. In addition to studying for this endorsement, you’ll also have to undergo a mandatory pre-employment drug test, complete a school bus driver training program and pass a physical exam as well as a driving history check and a criminal background check.
To make it easier for you to pass the official knowledge exam, we have created several School Bus practice tests. Whether you want to strengthen your memory or simulate the actual exam at home, you can use our Maryland CDL School Bus Practice tests at your convenience. There are several features designed to help you, including keyboard shortcuts, an overview of your answers and even the option to receive hints from our assistant.
Updated for December 2025, these practice tests have helped many students pass the official knowledge exam on their first try. All 20 questions come with a detailed explanation of the correct answer, allowing you to learn from your mistakes and avoid repeating them during the actual exam.
