Why You Should Pass Your CDL Knowledge Exam Before Feb 2022: New Driver Training Requirements

Effective February 7, 2022, all entry-level drivers must complete their training with a training provider listed on the new federal Training Provider Registry (TPR). (Even a carrier that trains its drivers must be registered on the TPR as a training provider.) There are new requirements on the ELDT training methods that the training provider may employ. For instance, the training provider must submit certification that the student driver has adequately mastered the theory and skills to drive a commercial vehicle before the driver is allowed to take the official skills test for a CDL.

These requirements will apply to nearly everyone seeking a CLP or an S, P, or H endorsement on or after February 7, 2022. There are only a few exceptions.

How will these changes affect you, the student commercial driver?

  1. Your choice of training providers will be more limited.
  2. You will have more hurdles to overcome before you may obtain a CDL.
  3. Your costs may rise, should the training provider pass the additional costs of compliance on to you in the form of higher tuition prices.

We can help! Our Premium plan is just the thing to speed you on your way to a CLP before February 7, 2022.
