Obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License in New York is a bit of a process and you need to be prepared to take a few steps to walk out of the New York DMV with your CDL. First there is the paperwork you need to get together. You’ll want to get together a current valid driver’s license and proof of citizenship (or permanent residency). For this last one, a green card, social security card or birth certificate will do nicely. Then, they also require you present a Medical Examiner’s Certificate that proves you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle.
