- Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
- Based on 2025 OR commercial driver's license manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for October 2025
To become a tanker truck driver in Oregon, you must obtain a Tank Vehicles (N) endorsement on your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The first step is to pass the official knowledge test, which covers tanker-specific safety procedures, liquid dynamics, emergency procedures and the pre-trip inspection. This test is in addition to meeting all the general requirements for a CDL, such as passing a skills test in a vehicle appropriate for the class of CDL and meeting all the medical requirements.
Oregon’s dairy production offers plenty of opportunities to truck drivers who hold the ”N” endorsement on their CDL. Transporting 5,000 gallons of milk from farms to processing plants is not an easy task, especially when liquid surge makes controlling the truck more difficult than usual. If the road is wet or icy, any sudden maneuver can turn into a catastrophe. Oregon is well-known for heavy rain, particularly in Tillamook County, where a large number of dairy farms are located. As a professional tanker driver, you must fully master the controls of your vehicle. Reduce speed on curves, brake and accelerate smoothly, and always be mindful of the stopping distance (which can be longer than usual).
The learning phase shouldn’t be rushed or skipped. There are no shortcuts, but dedicated students often adopt a smarter approach. While the CDL manual offers everything you need to know to pass the Tank Vehicles knowledge test, its rather complex content can be too difficult to study by someone who is not familiar with some of the advanced concepts of commercial driving. That’s why we have created a series of CDL Tank Vehicles practice tests for Oregon, updated for October 2025.
There’s no time limit, so you can take as long as you need before selecting an answer. Even when you make a mistake, we provide a detailed explanation of the correct answer, allowing you to understand the reasoning behind the question at hand before proceeding to the next one. Once you consistently obtain passing scores during your training sessions, you are probably ready to take the official Tank Vehicles knowledge exam.
