VT CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Test 2025
Our Vermont CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Tests cover everything you need to master the pre-trip inspection questions on the Vermont CDL General Knowledge Exam. Preparing with these practice tests also improves your chances of passing the Pre-Trip Inspection section of the CDL Skills Test.
The CDL Skills Test consists of three required parts: the federally mandated pre-trip inspection (49 CFR § 392.7 and 49 CFR § 396.13), basic control skills, and road test. To obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) in Vermont, you must pass the CDL General Knowledge Exam. Failing the knowledge exam means waiting at least one day and an additional fee before retesting. Once the knowledge exam is passed and your CLP is granted, you must hold the CLP for at least 14 days before taking the CDL Skills Test (only conducted in English in Vermont).
For the Vermont CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test, you must identify and inspect the vehicle’s engine compartment, cab controls, lights, tires, brakes, suspension, and cargo securement. In Vermont’s Pre-trip Inspection Test, you must point to, touch, and name each component during your pre-trip inspection test, explaining why it is being inspected and its operational condition. In Vermont, the specific parts of the vehicle a driver must inspect depend on the type of commercial vehicle they are testing in. Your examiner must attest that you can determine whether all parts are in good working condition and free of defects. Failing any part of the skills test requires retaking the failed section within the CLP validity period (365 days). Additionally, in Vermont, if you fail one part of the skills test, you cannot continue to the next part, and the state does not offer modified testing. If you fail the CDL skills test three times, you must wait six months before retaking it. If the CLP expires, you must restart all skills testing from the beginning.
This practice test is based on the most recent Vermont CDL manual (Vermont CDL Handbook 2025) and contains 20 multiple-choice questions to assess your understanding of pre-trip inspections. Our practice tests provide detailed explanations after each response, ensuring you pass the official knowledge test on your first attempt.

We leverage feedback from our vast community of users to understand which topics are most frequently tested. This helps us focus on the areas that are most relevant and beneficial for your preparation. - Expert Content Creation:
Our in-house editor, Steven, who has extensive experience in driver education, crafts each question with precision. He conducts a thorough review of each question against the official manuals to ensure accuracy. - Rigorous Review Process:
Once Steven has finalized a set of questions, our team conducts a joint review session. This second level of scrutiny involves content accuracy, proofreading, and fact-checking to eliminate any errors. - User Feedback Mechanism:
After a question goes live on our site, we keep the lines of communication open. Each question features a feedback button, inviting users to report any issues or errors. This continuous feedback loop allows us to address and rectify any concerns promptly. - Responsive Updates:
In line with our commitment to accuracy, we quickly update our practice questions to reflect any changes in the DMV manuals. Additionally, we update the free electronic copy of the state's driver's license manuals on our site, typically within a few days after the DMV publishes them.
