An Alaskan instructional permit is available to those between 14-16 who take a DMV written test, to demonstrate their driving knowledge. The test is comprised of 20 multiple-choice questions pulled from the 2026 State of Alaska Driver Manual, and you’ll need to correctly answer a minimum of 16 of the questions to pass. The knowledge test will have questions about road signs, rules of the road, safe driving techniques, and fines and limits. In addition to the written test, you’ll need to pass an eye exam, and bring $15 for your permit, as well as proper identification and parental consent if you’re under 18. If you have trouble reading or are unable to read, you may bring someone with you assist but not help to answer the questions. Our DMV practice test will help you study for your test and help you feel confident in your answers!
