To get your Alaska driver’s license, you must pass three official tests: a vision test, written knowledge test, and road test. If you’re under 18, you must obtain an instruction permit to practice driving under supervision before the road test – and the vision and knowledge tests are also required for the permit.
The Alaska DMV written test has 20 questions based on the official driver’s manual (Alaska DMV Handbook (AK Driver’s Manual) 2026). Questions cover traffic laws, safe driving practices, and road sign recognition. The passing score is 80% (16 correct).
This is our second Alaska Permit Practice Test, current for May 2026 and based on the official Alaska driver’s manual. Topics include aggressive driving, freeway driving, passing and being passed, pavement markings, right-of-way rules, road signs, roundabouts, and turns. Choose the best or most complete answer for each question.
Our AI Assistant can rephrase questions, supply hints, or answer your own driving questions. We also offer an Alaska Permit Test Study Guide with document checklists, fees, and frequently missed questions.

Test 2 changes the question mix so you can separate understanding from memorized answers.
Use Test 3 to confirm that vehicle equipment plus lane changes and passing no longer pull your score down.
