CA DMV Permit Practice Test 6 2025
To become a driver in the Golden State, you must obtain a California driver’s license. The licensing process requires all applicants to obtain an instruction permit by completing an application (DL 44 form), providing proof of identity and California residency, passing a vision test and a knowledge exam, and paying the application fees. Students under 18 must provide signed parental consent, and those under 17½ are required to complete a driver education program. Minors must hold an instruction permit for at least six months (or turn 18) before taking the driving test. During this time, a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving practice is required, with at least 10 hours at night. Adults are not required to hold the instruction permit for any minimum amount of time, and they can take the driving test as soon as they are able.
The official written knowledge exam is different depending on how old you are. Aspiring drivers under 18 must answer 46 questions, while adults get 36. You get three chances to pass this exam within a 12-month application period. The official California driver’s handbook (California DMV Driver's Handbook 2025: Interactive Manual w/Audio) contains useful information on the various aspects of driving theory, including traffic laws, road signs, rules of the road, and safe driving practices. Read its contents at least once, and when you’re ready, use our California DMV permit practice tests to evaluate your knowledge.
Each practice test has been updated for May 2025. For your convenience, we have omitted any timer to let you study at your own pace. The content and format are similar to the official written knowledge test. Although you’ll generally know what to expect on exam day, it is impossible to predict the exact questions you’ll receive on the official exam. That’s why you should practice as often as your schedule allows. With unlimited attempts and nonstop browser-based access, you benefit from flexibility in your learning phase. Start today and train with our practice tests for several weeks. Becoming a safe and responsible driver takes time, as patience is key to mastering any subject. This intuitive tool is intended to bring you one step closer to the freedom of driving, but this is a gradual process that will require time and effort on your part.
