To obtain a learner’s permit or driver’s license in Connecticut, you must pass a vision screening and a 25-question knowledge test based on the official DMV driver’s manual (Connecticut DMV Handbook (CT Driver's Manual) 2025). Since the minimum age to qualify for a learner’s permit is 16, minors must also complete a commercial driver’s education course, a secondary school driver’s education course, or a home training program. 30 hours of study covering the official driver’s manual and 40 hours of behind-the-wheel training are also mandatory for applicants under 18. Adults are required to complete an 8-hour safe driving course.
You don’t need a fortune to get licensed in Connecticut, but the DMV charges a $40 testing fee covering the vision, knowledge, and road tests. You can pay with cash, money orders, personal checks, bank checks, debit cards, or credit cards at the DMV office. We understand that some students struggle with test anxiety, while others have a difficult time understanding the official driver’s manual. Our Connecticut DMV permit practice tests completely change your approach to studying driving theory. This educational tool is designed to closely reflect the content and format of the official written knowledge test. Build confidence and familiarize yourself with the types of questions that you will encounter on exam day. Each of our practice tests consists of 40 multiple-choice questions based on the official DMV driver’s manual. With unlimited attempts and non-stop access, you have the flexibility to practice anytime, anywhere in the world.
On the left side of the page, the “Test settings” menu provides access to several features. From here, you can change the font size by adjusting the slider. Make the text bigger or smaller until it becomes easier to read. To study efficiently, you should take frequent breaks and stay hydrated during your training sessions. As you begin your learning phase, remember the goal of this intuitive tool. Each practice session brings you closer to becoming a safe and responsible driver, one who navigates Connecticut’s roads with confidence.
