The first step toward earning your Bay State learner’s permit is to pass a vision screening and the Massachusetts RMV written Permit Test, aka Knowledge Exam. Our Massachusetts RMV Written Permit Test Questions & Answers Practice Tests are designed to help you succeed on that exam the first time. The official learner’s permit exam contains 25 multiple-choice questions and requires a minimum score of 72% (18 correct answers) to pass. With interactive AI-powered practice tools, our study materials instill the deeper understanding required to answer the types of scenario-based questions used on the official test. By working through our multiple-choice photorealistic questions that mirror the wording of the official exam, you become familiar with the test format, so there are no surprises on test day.

The official exam evaluates your judgment on realistic driving situations rather than your ability to memorize simple facts. That’s why most outdated study guides and static pdfs used today are inefficient and leave applicants unprepared for what they will face on the official exam. That’s also why our practice tests are expert-crafted to deliver the content needed, with unnecessary fluff removed. Once you can pass this practice test with flying colors, try another: https://driving-tests.org/massachusetts/massachusetts-dmv-practice-test/. Also, continue building your knowledge with our Road Signs Practice Test at https://driving-tests.org/road-sign-test/ and the Fines and Limits Practice Test at https://driving-tests.org/massachusetts/massachusetts-fines-limits-permit-practice-test/. We have all your bases covered with our state-specific series of practice tests!

In Massachusetts, you may apply for a learner’s permit at age 16. The Knowledge Exam covers state traffic laws, road signs, right-of-way rules, and safe driving practices, and our practice tests prepare you completely. Once the permit is issued, it allows you to practice driving while accompanied by a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old and seated beside you in the front passenger seat.

Massachusetts uses a structured system for young drivers known as the Junior Operator License law. Minors must hold a learner’s permit for at least six consecutive months before they may take the road test, and they must also complete an RMV-approved driver education program that includes classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and supervised practice driving. Applicants who are 18 or older must still pass the same knowledge test and vision screening before receiving a learner’s permit, but they are not subject to the junior operator time restrictions.
