Montana’s wide-open spaces and quiet roads are different from what most people experience in urban environments. The endless skies and miles of empty highways might make every driver feel a sense of freedom, but there are a few things to keep in mind to stay safe even on remote roads. Outside towns, you might drive for long stretches without seeing another car or even a gas station. While this can be peaceful, it’s crucial to stay alert.

Animals like deer and cattle often wander onto these roads, especially around dawn and dusk. However, you’ll be warned about this danger by a road sign signaling wildlife crossings. This sign and many others are described in the official Montana driver manual (Montana DMV Handbook (MT Driver's Manual) 2026), which every aspiring driver should read at least once. This valuable resource teaches you the various aspects of driving theory, but it might not be enough on its own to help you pass the official written knowledge test on your first attempt.

Our Montana MVD permit practice tests are designed to make you a better driver and help you ace the written exam with confidence. Each practice test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you must score at least 80%, but it is perfectly normal to fail on your first few attempts. Unlike other practice tests that reveal your score at the end, we keep you updated in real time and point out your mistakes as soon as they occur. After you select one of the four answer choices, we’ll provide a detailed explanation for each question. Use this feedback to strengthen your knowledge and improve your performance with each attempt.
