In Vermont, if you’ve never held any driving credentials before, you must obtain a learner’s permit to practice supervised driving before taking the road test. To get a permit, you must be at least 15 years old, pass a vision test, and pass the DMV written learner’s permit test.

The Vermont DMV written test must be taken online and is available in 15 languages. All questions are based on the official driver’s manual (Vermont DMV Handbook (VT Driver’s Manual) 2026), which is published in sixteen languages, plus an English audiobook and an interactive online tutorial. The test has 20 questions with a passing score of 80% (16 correct).

This is our second Vermont Permit Practice Test, current for May 2026 and based on the official driver’s manual. Each question is multiple choice – choose the best or most complete answer.

If you’re stuck, our AI Assistant can give a hint or explain the question further. We also offer a Vermont Permit Test Study Guide with document checklists, fees, and frequently missed questions.

How to use Vermont Test 2

Treat this as a second read, not a repeat of the first practice test.

1

Start with Sharing the Road

This is one of the main areas in this test pool, so review the rule before another scored attempt.

2

Use fresh wording for VT rules

Test 2 changes the question mix so you can separate understanding from memorized answers.

3

Move to Test 3 after repeat misses drop

Use Test 3 to confirm that sharing the road plus vehicle equipment no longer pull your score down.
